Before You Start
Rolling out a new system works best when everyone knows what to expect. A few quick prep steps will save you headaches later.
- Pick a calm moment โ Don't introduce PointWiseSystem during a meltdown or right before bed. A weekend morning works great.
- Keep it simple โ You can always add more tasks and rewards later. Start small so nobody feels overwhelmed.
- Get buy-in โ Let your kids help choose their rewards. When they pick what they're working toward, motivation skyrockets.
Step 1: Set Up Your Children
Adding kids to PointWiseSystem takes about 30 seconds each.
- Open PointWiseSystem and tap Add Earner from the dashboard.
- Enter your child's name and pick an avatar they like โ this small choice gives them ownership right away.
- Repeat for each child. Start with 1-2 kids if you want to test the waters before adding the whole crew.
Step 2: Pick 3-5 Starter Tasks
Resist the urge to add 20 tasks on day one. Three to five is the sweet spot for the first week. Here are solid starters:
- ๐๏ธ Make bed โ 5 pts
- ๐พ Feed pet โ 5 pts
- ๐งน Clean room โ 5 pts
- ๐ฝ๏ธ Clear plate after meals โ 5 pts
- ๐ Homework without being asked โ 5 pts

Step 3: Set Up Rewards
Rewards are the engine of the whole system. Set up three tiers so kids always have something within reach and something to dream about.
Small Rewards (daily wins)
- โญ Extra 15 min screen time โ 15 pts
- โญ Pick a snack โ 10 pts
Medium Rewards (weekly goals)
- ๐ฏ Pick Friday night movie โ 50 pts
- ๐ฏ Friend sleepover โ 75 pts
Big Rewards (long-term motivation)
- ๐ Trip to the ice cream shop โ 200 pts
- ๐ New book or small toy โ 300 pts
The Family profile template in PointWiseSystem comes pre-loaded with reward ideas you can customize.
Step 4: Do a Practice Run
Before going live, walk through the system together so everyone knows how it works.
- Sit down with your kids and show them the task list. Let them tap a task to see how points are awarded.
- Show them the reward shop and let them pick one reward they want to work toward first.
- Complete one task together right now โ make a bed, clear a plate โ so they see points land in real time.
๐ก Tip
If you want to verify certain tasks before points are awarded, turn on Parent Approval for those specific tasks. You can enable it per task in the task settings โ no need to approve everything.
Tips for the First Week
- Celebrate early wins โ When a child redeems their first reward, make it a big deal. That positive loop is what keeps them going.
- Don't change point values mid-week โ Consistency builds trust. Wait until the weekend to adjust if needed.
- Check in at dinner โ A quick "How many points did you earn today?" keeps the system top of mind.
- Let them see the scoreboard โ Friendly sibling competition is a powerful motivator. Use Kiosk Mode on a shared tablet.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Too many tasks on day one โ Start with 3-5 and add more once the habit is established.
- Rewards that are too expensive โ If the cheapest reward takes two weeks to earn, kids lose interest. Keep a small reward within daily reach.
- Forgetting to use it โ Set a daily reminder for the first week. Once it becomes routine, you won't need it.
