Before You Start

  • Pick your start date — Monday works for most people, but any day is fine. Just commit to a specific day.
  • Be honest about your current routine — Don't list 15 habits you wish you had. Start with what's realistic right now.
  • Choose rewards you actually want — The reward has to feel worth it, or the system won't stick.

Step 1: Set Up Your Profile

You're both the admin and the earner here — and that's the beauty of it.

  1. Open PointWiseSystem and select the Personal profile. This loads habit-focused templates.
  2. Add yourself as an earner. Pick a name or nickname — this is just for you.
  3. That's it. No complicated setup. You're ready to add tasks.

Step 2: Pick 3-5 Starter Tasks

Choose habits that are specific and completable. "Be healthier" is too vague. "Morning workout" is perfect.

  • 💪 Morning workout — 15 pts
  • 🧘 Meditate (10 min) — 10 pts
  • 📖 Read for 30 minutes — 10 pts
  • 😴 Sleep 8 hours — 10 pts
  • 📵 No social media for 2 hours — 10 pts

Weight the harder habits with more points. If getting to the gym is your biggest challenge, make it worth the most.

Step 3: Set Up Rewards

Self-rewards are the secret weapon. Give yourself permission to enjoy something guilt-free when you've earned it.

Small Rewards (daily wins)

  • ⭐ Guilt-free Netflix episode — 15 pts
  • ⭐ Fancy coffee — 20 pts

Medium Rewards (weekly goals)

  • 🎯 New book or album — 100 pts
  • 🎯 Restaurant meal — 150 pts

Big Rewards (long-term motivation)

  • 🏆 New gear or gadget — 500 pts
  • 🏆 Weekend trip — 1000 pts

Step 4: Do a Practice Run

Don't just set it up and forget it. Do one cycle right now to build the muscle memory.

  1. Open your task list and complete one habit you can do immediately — meditate for 10 minutes, read a chapter, do some pushups.
  2. Tap the task to award yourself the points. Watch the number go up. That little dopamine hit is real.
  3. Check the reward shop and see how close you are to your first small reward. Visualizing progress is half the battle.

Tips for the First Week

  • Don't aim for perfection — Completing 3 out of 5 habits daily is a great start. You're building a foundation, not running a marathon.
  • Log immediately — Award yourself points right after completing a habit. Delayed logging leads to forgotten logging.
  • Redeem your first reward quickly — Earning and spending points in the first few days proves the system works. Don't hoard.
  • Review on Sunday — Look at your week. Which habits stuck? Which need a point boost to feel more motivating?

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Too many habits at once — Five is the max for week one. You can add more once these are automatic.
  • Vague tasks — "Exercise" is too broad. "30-minute run" or "Morning workout" gives you a clear finish line.
  • Rewards you don't actually care about — If the reward doesn't excite you, it won't motivate you. Pick things you genuinely look forward to.
