📦 Routines (Habit Stacking)

← Back to Help Center

What are Routines?

Routines let you group related recurring tasks into a sequence that earners complete in order. This is based on the "habit stacking" technique - linking tasks together so completing one naturally leads to the next.

Example Routines:

💡 Why Habit Stacking Works: When you link tasks together, completing one task becomes the trigger for the next. This builds stronger habits than trying to remember each task separately!

How Routines Work

📋 Sequential Completion

Tasks are completed in order, one at a time. The next task becomes available only after the previous one is done.

🔗 Same Underlying Tasks

Completing a task in a routine also marks it complete in the main task list. No double-tracking!

🔄 Daily Reset

Routines reset when their tasks reset (usually at midnight). Start fresh each day!

📦 Routine Badge

Tasks that are part of a routine show a badge in the main Recurring Tasks list.

Creating a Routine

Follow these steps to create your first routine:

1Go to Settings
Click the gear icon on the dashboard and enter your PIN.
2Find the Recurring Tasks Section
Scroll down to the "Recurring Tasks" section. You will see two tabs at the top: Tasks and Routines.
3Click the "Routines" Tab
This shows your existing routines (if any) and the "Add Routine" button.
4Click "Add Routine"
A form appears to create your new routine.
5Fill in the Routine Details
  • Name: Give it a descriptive name (e.g., "Morning Routine")
  • Earner: Select which earner this routine is for
  • Icon: Choose an emoji icon
  • Time of Day: Morning, Afternoon, Evening, or Anytime
  • Bonus Points: Extra points awarded for completing the whole routine (default: 10)
6Add Tasks to the Routine
Select from your existing recurring tasks for that earner. Click tasks to add them to the routine.
7Reorder Tasks (Optional)
Drag and drop tasks to change the order. The first task in the list is completed first.
8Save the Routine
Click "Save Routine". It will immediately appear on the dashboard!

Completing a Routine

Here is how earners complete routines on the dashboard:

1Find the Routine
Look for the "Routines" section on the earner card. Each routine shows a progress bar.
2Complete the Current Task
The current task is highlighted. Tap it to mark it complete and earn points.
3Continue Through the Routine
After completing a task, the next one becomes available. Keep going until all tasks are done.
4Earn the Bonus!
When all tasks in the routine are complete, you automatically earn the bonus points. The routine shows "Complete" until it resets.

Important: One Task, One Routine

⚠️ Each task can only be in ONE routine. If you try to add a task that is already in another routine, you will see a warning message.

Why? Since completing a task in a routine also marks it complete everywhere, having the same task in multiple routines would cause confusion.

Solution: If you need the same activity in multiple routines (like "Brush Teeth" in both morning and evening), create separate tasks:

💡 Tip: When you try to add a task that is already in a routine, the system will tell you which routine it is in and suggest creating a new task instead.
